Shipping Reinforcement Mesh: An Informative Guide

Shipping Methods

Reinforcement mesh is typically shipped as FCL (Full Container Load) in standard 20' or 40' dry containers. The mesh, rolled and secured onto pallets, fills the container. For exceptionally large or heavy rolls exceeding standard container dimensions or weight limits, OOG (Out of Gauge) shipment may be necessary. This requires specialized handling. Breakbulk shipment is a less likely option, reserved for unusually large or unwieldy bundles.

Packaging Specifications

Proper packaging is crucial to prevent damage during transit. Rolls should be secured to pallets using robust strapping and shrink wrap. Additional bracing may be necessary for particularly large or heavy rolls. Consider using corner boards for added protection. All packaging should be clearly labeled with relevant information, including weight, dimensions, and handling instructions.

Incoterms

The choice of Incoterms significantly impacts responsibility and cost. Common Incoterms for reinforcement mesh shipments include:

  • FOB (Free On Board): The seller is responsible for delivering the goods to the named port of shipment. The buyer is responsible for all costs and risks from that point onward.
  • CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight): The seller is responsible for all costs associated with delivering the goods to the named port of destination, including insurance and freight. Risk transfers to the buyer once the goods are on board the vessel.
  • DAP (Delivered at Place): The seller is responsible for delivering the goods to the named place of destination, ready for unloading. The buyer is responsible for import duties and taxes.
  • DPU (Delivered at Place Unloaded): Similar to DAP, but the seller is also responsible for unloading the goods at the named place of destination.

Shipping International can advise on suitable Incoterms.
