The best shipping method depends on rack size and weight:
1. Full Container Load (FCL): Ideal for numerous, relatively small racks filling a 20' or 40' container. Racks are secured with dunnage (wood bracing, corner protectors, straps).
2. Out of Gauge (OOG) Cargo: For exceptionally large or heavy racks exceeding container limits. Requires special handling and transport (flat rack, open-top containers). Custom-designed cradles or securing methods may be needed.
3. Breakbulk: Used only for extremely large, heavy, and unwieldy racks. Involves individual handling and stowage on a vessel's deck. Generally more expensive and less efficient.
Rack dimensions, weight, and shipment volume determine the best shipping type. Shipping International can provide an assessment and recommendations.
FCL: Each rack should be individually wrapped in protective padding (bubble wrap, foam). Securely fasten racks within the container using dunnage. Clearly label each package with contents and destination.
OOG: Requires custom crating. Use sturdy wood, reinforced corners, and ample padding. Clearly label with dimensions, weight, and handling instructions ("fragile," "this way up").
Breakbulk: Similar to OOG, but with even more robust crating due to exposure to the elements. Consider weatherproofing.
Cargo insurance is crucial to protect against loss or damage. The shipper is typically responsible for insuring the goods until they reach the destination. The contract of carriage will specify liability in case of damage or loss. Clarify liability with Shipping International.
For UK Shipments: You'll need a commercial invoice, packing list, and potentially other documents depending on the goods' nature. Ensure compliance with UK import/export regulations. Consult a customs broker for assistance.
