Shipping Electric Submersible Pumps
Shipping Method
Electric submersible pumps are typically shipped as FCL (Full Container Load). This is the most efficient method for most shipments due to their size and robustness. Exceptionally large or heavy pumps may require OOG (Out of Gauge) handling.

Packaging
Proper packaging is crucial to prevent damage during transit. This typically involves:
- Individual Pump Packaging: Each pump should be securely packaged in its original packaging or a suitable alternative, providing protection against shock and vibration.
- Crating or Palletizing: Pumps should be secured to pallets or within crates to prevent shifting during transport. Use appropriate bracing and cushioning materials. Crates should be constructed of sturdy wood, and pallets should be ISPM-15 compliant.
- Container Securing: Once loaded into the container, the pumps must be properly secured to prevent movement. Use appropriate lashing materials and techniques (e.g., strong straps, dunnage).
Detailed Packaging Material Specifications
- Cushioning Materials: Bubble wrap, foam padding (PE or polyurethane), and air pillows should be used liberally to fill voids and absorb shock.
- Bracing Methods: Use wooden bracing, straps, and corner protectors to prevent shifting and damage during transit. Ensure bracing is adequately secured to the crate or pallet.
- Crate/Pallet construction: Use high-quality plywood or other suitable material for crates. Pallets must meet ISPM-15 standards for international shipping.
Documentation
Accurate and complete documentation is essential for a smooth shipping process. This includes:
- Commercial Invoice
- Packing List
- Bill of Lading
- Certificate of Origin (if required)
- Any necessary export licenses or permits
Incoterms Explanation
Incoterms define responsibilities and costs between buyer and seller. Common examples include:
- DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): Seller bears all costs and risks until delivery at the named place in the buyer's country.
- CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight): Seller pays for costs and insurance to the port of destination; buyer assumes responsibility from there.
Consult an Incoterms guide for a complete explanation.
