Shipping Custom Storefront Panels
Shipping Methods
Custom storefront panels are typically shipped using one of two methods.
FCL (Full Container Load)
Best for panels within standard container dimensions and weight limits. Panels will be carefully crated or palletised for protection during transit. This is the most efficient and cost-effective option.
Packaging Specifications (FCL):
- Crates: Use sturdy wooden crates with sufficient internal bracing to prevent shifting during transit. Specify plywood thickness and construction details based on panel size and weight.
- Pallets: Use high-quality pallets capable of supporting the weight. Secure panels to the pallet using appropriate straps, shrink wrap, and corner boards.
- Materials: Use cushioning materials (e.g., bubble wrap, foam padding) to protect panels from impact and vibration.
- Bracing: Internal bracing should be robust enough to withstand potential shocks and impacts during transit. Consider using diagonal bracing for added support.
OOG (Out of Gauge)
Used when panels exceed standard container dimensions or weight limits. Requires specialized handling, potentially including flat rack containers or Breakbulk shipping. Secure bracing is crucial to prevent damage.
Breakbulk shipping is less common and typically only used for exceptionally large or irregularly shaped panels that do not fit in any type of container.
Packaging Specifications (OOG):
- Custom Crating: Requires specialized crating designed to accommodate the oversized dimensions and weight. Consult with a packaging specialist for optimal design.
- Securement: Panels must be securely fastened to the flat rack or other transport method using heavy-duty straps, chains, and other appropriate securing devices.
- Weather Protection: Add weatherproofing to protect against rain, snow, and other elements during transit.
- Clear Markings: Clearly mark the packaging with "Fragile," "Handle with Care," and other relevant warnings.
Insurance Options
Cargo insurance is crucial to protect against loss or damage during transit. Consider these coverage levels:
- Basic Coverage: Covers only specific perils, such as fire or sinking.
- All-Risk Coverage: Provides broader protection against a wider range of risks, including accidental damage.
