Choosing Your Shipment Type

Antique furniture is typically shipped as either FCL (Full Container Load) or OOG (Out of Gauge), depending on the size and dimensions of the pieces. Breakbulk shipment is less common but may be necessary for exceptionally large items.

FCL (Full Container Load)

Most cost-effective if your furniture fits within a standard 20ft or 40ft container. Careful packing with custom-built wooden crates and protective padding is essential. Climate control may be necessary for sensitive pieces.

OOG (Out of Gauge)

Used if any piece is oversized and exceeds standard container dimensions. Requires specialized handling and may involve different shipping methods, potentially including Breakbulk shipment. The specific method depends on size and weight.

Breakbulk

Used only for exceptionally large or heavy pieces that don't fit in a container or require OOG handling. Involves securing individual pieces directly onto a vessel, increasing handling and damage risk.

Cargo Description

Your cargo description should include:

Detailed inventory list with photos (crucial for insurance)
Materials (wood type, upholstery, etc.)
Dimensions (length, width, height) of each item
Weight of each item
Note any fragile items

Documentation Requirements

In addition to the cargo description, the following documentation is needed:

Export/Import Licenses (if required)
Customs Declarations (including HS Codes)
Phytosanitary Certificates (for wooden items, if required)
Bill of Lading
Insurance Certificate
